Are you new at a Goal setting & Planning? Or, do you already have some experience with defining your objectives and preparing a plan to reach them? The goal setting is necessary when talking about professional life and business. However, have you ever tried to establish goals in your personal life too?
We all have been through a goal setting & planning when we were at school. Our objective was to finish the semester or a school year and by planning our lessons and exams we exactly knew what do to to. And as a result, every year we were doing a big progress, whether it was in learning new technical skills or developing our personality. We were GROWING.
Then we start working and we often forget about our personal growth. Even if we set our goals, we start working hard to reach them but then we give up. The reason could be less time or energy left, we have other priorities and then we get lost and don’t focus back on our goal.
How much would you love to read those books you bought long time ago, or start doing some exercises to loose the weight. Maybe, you wish to start eating healthier, begin your new hobby or finish those things you always postponed…
I believe so much in goal setting and planning. It’s the key to reach your goal and be successful. Of course hard work, determination and focus is also important, but knowing what to focus on is the beginning of all. Furthermore, it saves your precious time and energy.
Why do I speak about Goal Setting & Planning?
I have about 10 years of experience in a corporate world; and have gone through different types of organizations, from a non-governmental, start-ups to a large multinational corporation. Goal setting and planning has been the key to every single process, area, project or activity we do. The company does not even start any activity without proper goal setting & planning.
At the beginning of every single year, we spent a lot of time on planning and setting our objectives. As a company but also as employees. We plan our professional & personal growth too.
And now, Goal setting & planning has became a daily process in my personal life too. I literally plan everything. Our week menu, time to do the food shopping, read some book, time to spend on photography, working on the blog.
And I see a PROGRESS.
I see a progress in every area I focus on. Whether it’s blogging & photography, learning & development of me as a person and as a professional, healthy lifestyle, or growing my online community.
I want to encourage to do the same;
to set your goals and work on achieving them, to have a joy from progressing forward. To be happy in life, satisfied about what you do for yourself. Because YOU deserve all this.

How to set real & measurable goals
When defining your goals, very important is to keep them clear and reachable. So when you analyse your goals, you exactly know if you met them or not.
There is a method you use when setting your goals. It’s called SMART.
Each goal (applying this method) should be:
- Specific (simple, sensible, significant).
- Measurable (meaningful, motivating).
- Achievable (agreed, attainable).
- Relevant (reasonable, realistic and resourced, results-based).
- Time bound (time-based, time limited, time/cost limited, timely, time-sensitive).

Let’s see some examples how to apply it on our goals:
My yearly goal could be: Read more books and do some courses. This is however not really clear. How many books you should read to meet your objective? What books to read? What courses you want to attend?
If you make your goal smart, it could be: read 50 books this year in total. 20 books focusing on online marketing, 10 novels, 20 books on healthy eating. Attend 5 courses on personal development, of which 3 via online educational platforms on a marketing topic, 1 online course for photography and 1 online for photo editing.
Can you see the difference? The goal is clear, measurable at the end of the year, but its easier to divide it into quarters, months or weeks.
Keep a track of your plan
What tool is the best to keep a track of your goals and plan?
I love using Trello for each project or activity I do. I am very happy about what options it gives me at the free option plan. You can create your own board for this goal setting & planning, write your goals there, and track it every day. A great thing about Trello is that the application is online, therefore you can edit & read everything from any of your device – computer or mobile.
