In this lesson, we will focus on how 4 techniques to build the cocktails. It is very helpful to know them, even if you have someone else who prepares cocktails for your images.
Before you start preparing the cocktails, it’s very important to measure the size of your glass, so you know exactly how much ingredients you will need.
These are the 4 building techniques:
This technique is when you build a cocktail directly in the glass. No shaking or mixing is involved here. You simply pour each ingredient step by step into the glass.
Such cocktails can be MIMOSA, SPRITZ APEROL, NEGRONI, TEQUILA SUNRISE or GIN & TONIC.
This is the easiest way to prepare cocktails, as you don’t need any other tools, such as a shaker, strainer, or other equipment.
Make sure to have an appropriate glass to fit all the ingredients for the cocktail.
#2 Shake and Pour
This technique involves shaker – you can use any type, even a simple larger jar is enough to shake the ingredients.
Other important tools are the sieve or a strainer. Some shakers come with a built-in strainer, in such a case, you don’t need the Hawnthorne strainer.
Such cocktails are mostly prepared in a martini glass, however feel free to use more variety of glasses too.
Some recipes contain a raw egg white, in order to create a foam. If using egg whites, make sure the eggs come from a biological (organic) farm and are fresh. it is not advisable to prepare cocktails for those with impaired immune systems, the elderly or pregnant women.
#3 Strain and Pour
For this technique you will need a mixing jug or any other larger jar you have at home.
You simply pour all the ingredients into a mixing jug, mix them with a bar spoon. Then, use a strainer and a sieve (or only a sieve) to pour them into the glass.
Blended cocktails are prepared in a classic blender. You blend the liquid ingredients together with an ice, then pour them into the glass.
Such cocktails are MARGARITA FROZEN or PINA COLADA.
