How to take hummus to the next level and turn it from great to even better? What are the secrets for a perfect hummus recipe?
I think you already know, that I am crazy into humus. Who isn’t? Many people know it, many don’t. I have already posted a few recipes about hummus from chickpea or beans, and wrote about how to get creative with hummus and make it every time different. This is also the main reason why I love hummus so much. Not only because it’s super healthy and nutrient, but also because you can get creative and it just turns great every time.
But…I have never spoken about the way I discovered just recently, how to prepare “next level” hummus. Haha, sounds crazy. But, this was the best hummus I have ever made, and I am absolutely exciting to tell you these 3 secrets for the perfect hummus recipe.
This recipe, apart of being absolutely delicious and healthy, is also vegan / plant-based, gluten-free, diary/lactose-free and nuts-free. Great for lunch or dinner. You can serve it with vegetables, bread, flatbread, crackers, or add it into a meal, veggie bowl, etc.
What I changed in this hummus recipe
So, here are my secrets for absolutely delicious hummus:
1. secret – roast the chickpea & garlic
I roasted the cooked chickpea and fresh garlic in oven. Use canned or home-cooked chickpea, place it on a tall baking tray, add garlic, seasoned it with extravergine olive oil, salt, cumin and fresh thyme, add some (a cup of) water, and put in oven for about 20 minutes for 180 degrees. When its done, let it cool down to a room temperature.
2. secret – use the sauce of roasted chickpea instead of water
Use the sauce from the roasted chickpea when blending the hummus. This is the other thing which makes hummus from good to great. Instead of using a simple water, just use the sauce you get from the chickpea. It’s absolutely delicious!
3. secret – add fresh herbs & seasoning
Add some fresh thyme and some cumin powder also into food processor, when blending the hummus. If you do not have cumin powder at home, you can use cumin seeds too.
This Thyme hummus is
- Super nutrient and healthy
- Simple and delicious
- Great as snack, lunch or dinner
